"WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"
choose and elect the American President
The time will soon come for us, the American people, to make up our mind and elect our next President. In the past few months we have witnessed quite an unusual and almost chaotic type of campaigning. Some people have found it amusing and entertaining, at times even gross with cheap personal attacks, and most of the time rather boring having to listen to endless lies.
To say the least, it is a confusing electoral campaign which does not help anybody be wiser to reach a clear, meaningful decision and properly choose a worthwhile person to become the next American president.
To say the least, it is a confusing electoral campaign which does not help anybody be wiser to reach a clear, meaningful decision and properly choose a worthwhile person to become the next American president.
We have had our shares of deceipt with hope and change from the empty claims and promises to make America great and bring about a better existence to its people. The continuing hardship in everyday life has shown more forcefully that choosing and electing the President must be addressed with much more seriousness. It is most encouraging - and not at all surprising - to see that, compared to the past elections, there are more and more people who have come out by millions and millions to cast their ballots in the recent primaries.
The American nation has elected its presidents since the year of 1789, with George Washington being the first one and that was by the way of the US Constitution which also came into effect at the same time. Over more than two centuries, the American nation has existed and prospered under its Constitution. The American people have made outstanding achievements in all the fields of human endeavors at levels never seen before in human history, and the guiding and driving forces in their lives have always been the ethical and moral values embodied in the US Constitution.
America has become the greatest nation, not by subjugating other countries through military power or economic wealth, as seen in the cases of facist Germany, imperialist Japan and the communist Soviet Union which tried to impose their hegemonies by the force of arms and failed. In dealing with such dramatic world issues, America acted with its sense of Ethics and Morality as professed by the US Constitution. That is why no elected American presidents under this US Constitution has ever advocated the use of military force or economic power to make America great. America has become great, is great and will continue to be great by its Constitution.
International problems are complex and the domestic issues in America are now also pressing and poignant. To clear out the ongoing confusion about the presidential elections, we are not interested by someone who claims to be some sort of expert or some kind of management wizard, or someone with a sharp mind with catching populist slogans, or someone with resounding political records and clever craftsmanship in maneuvering events. What we can and must look for in the next President is someone having firm ethical and moral values with thorough understanding of the Constitution which is the very backbone of presidential leadership.
There is one last thing which can help us make up our mind and choose the best candidate possible in the present circumstances and that is to remember what the next American President will have to declare solemnly in taking the Oath of Office on January 20, 2017 and that is, word for word, to assume the sacred duty to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Therefore, it is essential for the presidential candidates to let us know what they will do concretely to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution" when they talk about, say, healthcare, gun control, abortion, religious freedom, same sex marriage, immigration, terrorism, and so on ... Above all other considerations, by the end of the day, the President of the United of America has the responsibility to provide leadership and to conduct the state affairs in strict respect of the ethical and moral values which have prevailed in the US Constitution and have made America great throughout the past two centuries.
