Muslim congressman to be booted off key committee?
U.S. intelligence 'faces new Islamic threat'
A Washington-based think tank focused on national security has released a dossier on Muslim U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., charging his association with radical Islamic groups warrants his removal from the House Intelligence Committee.
CSP President Frank Gaffney served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for nuclear forces and arms-control policy during the 1980s and later was a staff member for the Senate Armed Services Committee. He explained why Carson should be removed from the committee.
“Since there are, at the moment, few topics more in need of assiduous oversight by the Congress – even if there were no actual risk of compromise of national security secrets or Muslim Brotherhood influence operations associated with Rep. Carson’s presence on the House Intelligence Committee – the potential impediment he may constitute to such work demands his removal from this panel.”
WND reported in January that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi selected the first Muslim ever to serve on the intelligence committee.
The report noted the Middle East Forum’s Islamist Watch project, run by Daniel Pipes, revealed Carson received campaign contributions from numerous radical Muslim groups.
For example, Carson received a $5,000 campaign contribution in 2008 from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-financing trial in which the federal judge found “ample evidence” of CAIR’s links to Hamas. Carson received another $1,000 from CAIR in 2014.
Carson, however, has an even larger relationship with another radical group, the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA, which was listed by the Muslim Brotherhood as a “likeminded” organization that shares the goal of making the U.S. an Islamic nation.
The congressman received more than $30,000 in campaign contributions “from individuals associated with CAIR and with the Islamic Society of North America, which was also named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case,” the Daily Caller reported.
Carson has been openly active with ISNA. At ISNA’s annual convention in August 2008, Carson and Rep. Keith Ellison, a Muslim from Minnesota, participated in a panel discussion titled “Mobilizing the Muslim Political Machine: Effective Strategies for Community-Based Political Advocacy.” The panel focused on community organizing tools for and participation in the electoral process, as well as how to create political action committees.
Carson and Ellison again participated in the July 2009 ISNA convention. The topic of discussion this time was “Effective Strategies for Muslim Political Advocacy.” The panelists, including Ellison and Carson, shared ideas on how the Muslim community can effectively engage in political advocacy.
The new Carson dossier was unveiled in a presentation from Gaffney about the Muslim Brotherhood.
“Given the Muslim Brotherhood’s unalterable commitment to Islamic supremacism,” Gaffney said, “the imposition of Shariah worldwide and the establishment of a caliphate to rule globally in accordance with that totalitarian program – in place of our constitutional republic and all other forms of government, what the Obama administration is doing is bad enough.
Its serial efforts to engage, legitimate, fund, arm and otherwise empower the Brotherhood overseas and to rely upon the Brothers’ domestic front organizations as representatives of and outreach vehicles to the Muslim community in this country are intensifying the dangers we face from the Global Jihad Movement.”
Gaffney said it is “wholly unacceptable to have as a member of a key congressional committee charged with overseeing U.S. intelligence and counterintelligence an individual with extensive personal and political associations with the Muslim Brotherhood’s civilization jihadist infrastructure in America.”
“At a minimum, Rep. Andre Carson’s presence on the House Intelligence Committee will necessitate restrictions on his access to classified information about the presence and operations in this country of what amounts to a subversive Islamist Fifth Column and his participation in the panel’s deliberations concerning how it can best be countered.”
The report said Pelosi’s decision to name Carson to the panel “raises deep concerns from a national security perspective.”
“Particularly alarming is Rep. Carson’s long history of associating with organizations known to be front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood, which has as a goal the establishment of a worldwide Muslim caliphate,” the report said.
“The Carson-tied Muslim groups have a documented history of serving as unregistered foreign agents, engaging in material support for terrorism, and possessing direct ties to the Brotherhood’s Palestinian franchise, Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.”
A video released by the center featured a montage of Carson’s speeches to a variety of groups, including the Islamic Society of North America and the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, to whom he encouraged people to donate financially.
He also told the Islamic Council of North America that Muslims need to “groom” the next mayor, the next city councilor and the future president.
A WND request for comment left with Carson’s congressional office generated no response.
A request for comment from Pelosi on her appointment also did not produce any response.
The center said the panel “is charged with oversight of the of the United States’ most sensitive national intelligence capabilities and operations.”
Those include any efforts involving Islamic supremacists seeking to impose worldwide Shariah.
The center noted that the Muslim Brotherhood’s declared mission is to destroy “the Western civilization from within.”
It is, therefore, problematic and potentially detrimental to the national security that Carson has extensive and longstanding ties to organizations and individuals associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, the report said.
The dossier noted: “Carson’s unsuitability for service on the House Intelligence Committee is further underscored by the fact that his political campaign has benefited directly and financially from such entities. Public available records indicate that he received at least $33,911 in campaign donations from individuals associated with Muslim Brotherhood-linked organizations over a period of several years.”
The heavily footnoted dossier explains, “[S]uch associations and collaboration raise a very real question about Congressman Andre Carson’s judgment and conduct.
“They also demand serious consideration concerning the security of intelligence information that would become available to this legislator as a result of his membership on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.”
