I believe the answer is that Obama's real goal was to release the five terrorists from Gitmo as part of demonstrating to the Taliban that he could do so.  Swapping them for Bowe Bergdahl was just window dressing to make the deal look like we got something in return.

Obama thinks he has to close Guantanamo.  He was elected promising to do so and he likely feels he can't leave office with the prison still open for business.  He won't say so now, but his dirty secret is that he plans to clean the place out by the time he's out of Afghanistan.  Never mind that the war on terror is far from over.  He needs the prison to be empty.

Obama didn't realize that Bergdahl himself would prove so controversial and did not count on that backlash, but he was prepared to weather the storm for releasing the Guantanamo inmates.

Just when you thought that there was no more money out there for the Clinton family to grab, The New York Times reported that Chelsea Clinton is now charging $75,000 per speech!

Now that is seriously hard to believe.

The question is why anyone would invite her to speak in the first place, let alone pay her an exorbitant fee.

Because anyone who has ever watched Chelsea's highly scripted and repetitive speeches, or seen her stilted attempts at TV journalism, would be understandably shocked at the outrageous speaking fee.  She's a nice, polite, highly educated young woman, but she is NOT a charismatic speaker like her father or an experienced politician and advocate like her mother.  What's attractive about her is her name.

Her ever-present handlers point out that the fees are donated directly to the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Foundation.  But what difference does that make?

The worst day in Barack Obama's life may have been the day he won a second term. Increasingly, he is the captive of events his own policies have set in motion that are now out of control and coming back to haunt him. The last two and a half years of his second term seem fated to be the worst ending to a presidency since those of Johnson and Nixon, dominated by Vietnam protests and Watergate, respectively.

The process will cook his legacy and destroy his party's chances to keep the presidency.

In today's America, I can't be both an economist and a liberal.
Economists should be bound ​by ​facts and reason. And I can't do that and embrace liberal positions on the minimum wage, climate change and gender discrimination.
Raising prices for most anything reduces purchases. Simply put, if beef or a plumbers’ visit gets too high, folks start to eat more chicken and fix their own faucets.
